Templates for Pharmacies

The best free WordPress themes for a pharmacy website in 2026 are Zakra (it ships a ready-made Pharmacy starter site), Astra, Neve and OceanWP for general-purpose stores, and Medical Circle, Health Service and Hospital Health Care if you want a medical layout out of the box. All twelve themes below are free on WordPress.org, work with WooCommerce, and were checked for active maintenance in August 2026.

We picked them on four things: how quickly you can get a pharmacy layout running, how well they handle product catalogues and prescription enquiry forms, page speed on mobile, and whether the developer is still shipping updates. Install dates, version numbers and active-install counts in the table come straight from the WordPress.org theme directory.

Our honest take: the four big multipurpose themes (Zakra, Astra, Neve, OceanWP) are updated almost every month and will outlive any niche theme. The medical-niche themes give you a pharmacy look faster but have tiny user bases, so test them on a staging site first.

WordPress Themes & Templates for Pharmacies

Here are the 12 free WordPress pharmacy themes in detail, with what each one does well and where it falls short.

1. Zakra

Zakra

Zakra is our first pick because it is the only theme on this list with a dedicated Pharmacy starter site. Import it, swap the logo and product photos, and you have a working drugstore front page in an afternoon. The theme is on version 4.3.1 (updated August 2026) and runs on the Customizer, so you do not need a page builder, although it supports Elementor and the block editor if you prefer one.

WooCommerce support is full: shop grids, single-product layouts and cart pages all inherit your colours and typography. The free version gives you the basics. Header and footer builders, sticky headers and more layout controls sit in Zakra Pro, which is paid. For most independent pharmacies the free tier is enough. If you later want to manage the site through a structured content management workflow, Zakra stays out of the way.

2. Flash

Flash

Flash comes from ThemeGrill, the same company behind Zakra. It is a clean multipurpose theme with one-click demo import and a good set of Customizer widgets for services, team members and testimonials. That combination suits a chemist or clinic that mostly needs a brochure site: opening hours, services, a contact form and a short blog.

Flash has not had a release since August 2025 at the time of writing, which is longer than we like. It still works with current WordPress, but if you want the safest long-term bet from ThemeGrill, Zakra is the one they invest in. Choose Flash for its look, not for its roadmap.

3. Spacious

Spacious

Spacious is another ThemeGrill theme, now at version 1.9.12 with 20,000+ active installs. It is a classic business layout: slider or static hero, a row of feature boxes, a blog grid, a wide footer. Colour, layout and font controls live in the Customizer and it works with Elementor and the block editor.

It is a sensible pick for a pharmacy that wants a simple, dependable site and no surprises. The trade-off is that it looks like a 2019 business theme unless you put in design work. For a modern feel with the same ease of setup, Zakra or Neve are stronger.

4. Cenote- Templates for Pharmacies

Cenote is a blog-first theme that can carry a small WooCommerce shop. It has a 100 percent rating on WordPress.org, a clean magazine layout, and good category and tag handling, which matters if you plan to publish health guides, medication explainers or seasonal advice alongside products.

That makes Cenote the right fit for a pharmacy that wins customers through content: a blog about allergy season, vaccination reminders, supplement guides. If your site is mostly a catalogue, skip it and pick OceanWP or Astra instead.

5. Neve

Neve

Neve from Themeisle is built for speed. The base theme is tiny, it is mobile-first, and it scores well on Core Web Vitals even on entry-level shared hosting, which is what most independent pharmacies run on. Version 4.2.11 shipped in August 2026 and the theme has 200,000+ active installs.

The free version includes a drag-and-drop header and footer builder, global colour palettes, and WooCommerce styling. Neve’s starter-site library has medical and health templates you can adapt for a drugstore. Neve Pro adds things like a WooCommerce booster (quick view, wishlist, sticky add-to-cart) and custom layouts. If page speed is your main worry, start here.

6. OceanWP

OceanWP

OceanWP has the deepest WooCommerce integration of any free theme here. Out of the box you get product quick view, a floating add-to-cart bar, off-canvas cart and filters, and several shop grid styles. That is exactly what a pharmacy with hundreds of SKUs needs and most themes charge for it.

The theme is at version 4.2.3 (August 2026) with 500,000+ active installs, and it has multiple header styles plus a large template library through its companion plugin. Its weakness is that the free theme leans on the Ocean Extra plugin and the premium extensions for the polished bits, so read the feature list carefully before you commit. Pair it with a proper WooCommerce setup for prescription-only products, age gates and shipping rules.

7. Astra- Templates for Pharmacies

Astra is the most installed non-default theme on WordPress.org, with over a million active sites and a release cadence of roughly one update a month (version 4.13.10 at the time of writing). It remains one of the most popular WordPress themes for a reason: it is light, works with every major page builder, and the Starter Templates library now runs to 300+ ready-made sites, including pharmacy, medical store and clinic designs.

For a pharmacy, Astra’s strengths are WooCommerce compatibility, easy sidebar and layout control, and a huge ecosystem of tutorials. It also plays well with Yoast SEO and LearnDash or Learnomy if you run staff training on the same site. Astra Pro adds the header builder extras, mega menus and WooCommerce grid controls. The free tier is plenty for a single-store site.

8. Hestia- Templates for Pharmacies

Hestia is Themeisle’s one-page material-design theme, on version 3.3.5 as of July 2026 with 80,000+ active installs. It works well for a single-location pharmacy that wants one scrolling page: hero, services, team, testimonials, contact and a map. Everything is controlled from the live Customizer, and the theme is fully compatible with the block editor and translation-ready.

Hestia supports WooCommerce, but its shop pages are basic. Treat it as a landing-page theme with a small product section rather than a full online drugstore. It pairs nicely with caching plugins and appointment-booking plugins.

9. Medical Circle- Templates for Pharmacies

Medical Circle is the most actively developed niche medical theme on this list. It reached version 4.0.0 in July 2026 and holds a 100 percent user rating, with around 1,000 active installs. It ships with sections built for healthcare: departments, doctors, appointment call-to-actions and a services grid, so a pharmacy attached to a clinic can present both without extra plugins.

It also supports WooCommerce for over-the-counter product listings. The free version has limited layout options compared with Astra or Zakra, and the premium upgrade is where most of the design flexibility lives. Still, if you want a “medical” look without building it yourself, this is the strongest niche option.

10. Health Service- Templates for Pharmacies

Health Service is a Bootstrap-based theme aimed at clinics, care services and pharmacies. Version 2.2 was released in April 2026. It includes the building blocks a small pharmacy needs: a slider, call-to-action strips, testimonial and team sections, and a standard blog. It works with WPForms and Yoast SEO, which covers prescription enquiry forms and basic SEO.

The honest caveat is its size: roughly 100 active installs. That means fewer people have hit and reported edge-case bugs. It is fine for a simple service-led site, but we would not build a large catalogue on it.

11. Hospital Health Care

Hospital Health Care is a responsive medical theme with a classic layout and templates for services, portfolios and contact pages. It is on version 0.2.8 (December 2025) with a few hundred active installs and a 100 percent rating from the people who have reviewed it.

It suits a hospital pharmacy or a multi-department practice that needs to list services, staff and opening hours in a traditional structure. Expect to add your own shop styling if you sell online, because the WooCommerce pages are plain.

12. Medical Head

Medical Heed is a clean, beginner-friendly medical theme with colour controls, header and footer options and a responsive layout. It is still listed on WordPress.org, but its last update was September 2024, the oldest on this list. We keep it here because the design is genuinely nice for a small pharmacy, and it still activates cleanly on current WordPress.

Use it only if you like its exact look and are comfortable switching themes later if it stops receiving updates. For anything you plan to run for years, pick one of the first nine themes instead.

What a pharmacy website needs beyond the theme

A theme sets the look. A few other pieces decide whether the site actually works for a pharmacy.

  • Product catalogue: WooCommerce handles over-the-counter products. For prescription-only items, you need a way to collect the prescription (an upload field at checkout via a plugin like WPForms or a WooCommerce file-upload extension) and a checkout rule that blocks those products from guest purchase.
  • Age and compliance gates: Some products require age confirmation. A lightweight age-verification plugin in front of the relevant categories is enough for most regions, but check your local pharmacy regulator’s rules on online sales before you launch.
  • Opening hours and location: Put them in the header or the first screen on mobile. Most pharmacy searches are “near me” searches, and Google pulls these details from your site and your Business Profile.
  • Speed: Pick a light theme (Neve, Astra, Zakra), compress images, and use a caching plugin. A pharmacy site full of uncompressed product photos will crawl on a phone.
  • Forms: A repeat-prescription request form and a pharmacist enquiry form cover most customer needs. Keep them short.

Frequently asked questions

Which free WordPress theme is best for a pharmacy website?

Zakra, because it includes a ready-made Pharmacy starter site and is updated monthly. If you already use a page builder or want the largest template library, Astra is an equally safe choice.

Can I sell medicines online with a free WordPress theme?

Yes for over-the-counter products, using WooCommerce. Prescription-only medicines need extra handling (prescription upload, pharmacist approval, restricted shipping) and you must follow your country’s online pharmacy regulations. The theme does not change those obligations.

Do I need the Pro version of these themes?

Usually not for a single-location pharmacy. Pro versions mainly add header and footer builder extras, more WooCommerce layout controls and priority support. Start free, and upgrade only when you hit a specific wall.

Are niche medical themes better than multipurpose themes?

They look right faster, but they have far fewer users and slower update cycles. Medical Circle is the exception with regular releases. For a site you will run for years, a multipurpose theme with a medical starter template is the lower-risk option.

How do I check a theme is still maintained?

Open its page on WordPress.org and look at “Last updated” and “Active installations”. Anything not updated for more than a year, or with under a few hundred installs, deserves a staging-site test before you trust it with a live store.

Build a Professional Pharmacy Website with the Right Theme

Where to start: install Zakra and import its Pharmacy starter site if you want the quickest result. Choose OceanWP if your catalogue is large and you want shop features for free. Choose Neve if your hosting is modest and speed matters most. Choose Medical Circle if the site is a clinic and pharmacy together and you want the medical look without design work.

Whichever theme you pick, keep it updated, run WooCommerce on a staging copy before major changes, and test the checkout on a phone. Those three habits matter more than the theme name on the footer.
