Why PeepSo

PeepSo is the polished alternative to BuddyPress.

PeepSo ships a more cohesive default UX than BuddyPress: stronger activity-stream design, better default email digests, a more SaaS-feeling member dashboard. The trade-off is a smaller third-party ecosystem and tighter customisation patterns. For many community products, that is the right trade-off; the default UX is already most of the way there.

We ship PeepSo add-ons (bbPress, wpForo, Member Blog, EDD, and others) and run PeepSo in production. The integration patterns we sell are the patterns we ship.

A community in motion

What we build

PeepSo customisations across activity, groups, and integrations.

Activity types, group structures, third-party integrations, member directories, BuddyPress migrations, and performance tuning. Built by a team that runs PeepSo every day.

01

Custom activity types and walls

New activity types tied to your domain (events, achievements, content publishing, gamification triggers). Custom wall layouts, sticky posts, pinned announcements, and activity-stream filtering rules. Hooked into PeepSo notifications and email digests correctly.

Activity stream matches the product, not the default template.

02

Group and community structures

Custom group types, group meta fields, hierarchical groups, invite-only groups, paid groups, and role-based group permissions. Cohort groups for LearnDash. Vendor groups for Dokan. Project groups for client portals.

Groups become the backbone of engagement.

03

Third-party integrations

PeepSo + LearnDash (course communities), PeepSo + WooCommerce (member discounts, purchase-gated content), PeepSo + Dokan (vendor profiles + community), PeepSo + bbPress, PeepSo + EDD. We ship and maintain the add-ons that make these integrations production-ready.

Integration add-ons we ship: PeepSo bbPress, PeepSo wpForo, PeepSo LearnDash, more.

04

Member directories and profiles

Custom profile field types, profile completion gating, filterable member directory, location-based member maps, profile-aware permissions on activity and groups. Profile data exposed via REST for headless front-ends.

Members can find each other; profile data is queryable.

05

Migration from BuddyPress

Tooling and process to migrate from BuddyPress to PeepSo (or vice versa) without losing activity history, member data, group structure, or relationship graphs. Mapping tables, dry-run migrations, and rollback plans. Zero-downtime cutover on launch day.

Move communities between platforms without data loss.

06

Performance at scale

PeepSo activity queries get expensive at scale. We optimise the wall queries, cache notification counts, move heavy meta to custom tables, and tune the friend/follow subsystem. Sites stay responsive past 10,000 active members.

Performance holds at community scale.

Common questions

Frequently asked

  1. When should I pick PeepSo over BuddyPress?

PeepSo if you want a polished, more SaaS-feeling UX out of the box; BuddyPress if you want the largest plugin ecosystem and the most flexibility. PeepSo ships with a more cohesive UI and stronger default email digests; BuddyPress has more third-party plugins and deeper customisability. We will recommend honestly in discovery based on your scope and team comfort.

  2. Do you maintain PeepSo add-ons yourselves?

Yes. PeepSo bbPress, PeepSo wpForo, PeepSo Member Blog, PeepSo EDD, and several integration add-ons are on our roster. We ship updates to WordPress.org, support the add-ons, and run them in production on dogfood sites.

  3. Can you integrate PeepSo with LearnDash?

Yes. Course-cohort communities, lesson-tied activity (post when a lesson is completed), instructor profiles, course-discussion groups. PeepSo + LearnDash is one of the most common patterns we ship for education customers.

  4. How do you handle migrations from BuddyPress to PeepSo?

We map the BuddyPress data model to PeepSo equivalents, write migration scripts, dry-run against a copy of your database, validate row counts and relationship integrity, then cut over with rollback safety. Activity history, member data, groups, friendships, and private messages all transfer. We have done this in both directions.

  5. What about moderation and community safety?

PeepSo has its own moderation tooling. We extend it with custom moderation rules (keyword auto-moderation, role-based posting permissions, content age gates) and integrate with our BuddyPress Moderation Pro patterns where appropriate. Audit trail and admin-action logs included.

  6. Can PeepSo work headless for a mobile app?

Yes. We extend the PeepSo data model through WP REST, add JWT authentication, and ship a typed schema. We have built React Native and web frontends that consume PeepSo community data this way. Mobile-first UX gets the same data model the WP frontend uses.

  7. What does it cost?

PeepSo customisations are scoped per project (custom activity types, integration add-ons, theme integration). Full community builds are scope-dependent. Migrations from BuddyPress are scoped by your existing site size and complexity. Discovery call is free.
