Why BuddyPress

BuddyPress is the community engine you can actually own.

Hosted community platforms (Circle, Mighty Networks, Skool, Discord) work until you need a feature they do not ship, until pricing scales out from under you, until the data lives somewhere you cannot fully audit, or until the integration with your existing WordPress site becomes the daily friction.

BuddyPress on WordPress means owned data, deep WordPress integration, the full plugin ecosystem, and customization that goes as deep as the codebase. The trade-off is that BuddyPress needs an engineering partner who actually knows the platform. That is what we do.

What we build

Communities that match your product, not the default template.

Custom activity, groups, moderation, member directories, REST API, performance tuning. Built by a team that runs BuddyPress in production every day.

01

Custom activity types and components

New activity types tied to your domain (achievements, content publishing, gamification events). Custom BuddyPress components for features that do not exist out of the box. Hooked properly into the activity stream and notifications.

Community surfaces match the product, not the default template.

02

Group features built right

Custom group types, group meta fields, group-aware permissions, group invitations, group hierarchies. Cohort groups for LearnDash. Vendor groups for Dokan. Project groups for client portals. The patterns most communities need.

Groups become the backbone of community engagement.

03

Moderation that scales

BuddyPress Moderation Pro (our own plugin) for reports, queues, and admin actions. Custom moderation rules. Auto-moderation by keyword or pattern. Audit trail. We built the moderation layer because we saw what unmoderated communities turn into.

Community stays safe without burning out moderators.

04

Member directories and profile fields

Custom xProfile field types, profile completion tracking, member directory filters, search facets, member maps. Profile-aware permissions. Profile data exported through REST.

Members can actually find each other.

05

REST API and headless BuddyPress

BuddyPress core REST API extended for custom components. Headless mobile apps consuming BuddyPress data. React Native, Flutter, or web frontends. Authentication, rate limiting, schema validated.

Community accessible across every surface.

06

Performance at 10,000+ members

BuddyPress queries get expensive at scale. We optimize the activity stream queries, cache notification counts, move heavy data to custom tables, and tune the friendship and message subsystems. Sites stay fast as members grow.

Performance holds at community scale.

30,000+

active sites running our BuddyX community theme

Source code public on WordPress.org. Production proof of pattern reliability.

Common questions

Frequently asked

  1. Why BuddyPress over BuddyBoss, PeepSo, or Discord?

BuddyPress is open source, owned-data, deeply integrated with WordPress, and has the largest ecosystem of community plugins. BuddyBoss is a fork with a polished UI but proprietary licensing. Discord is a chat platform, not a community platform. We will recommend honestly based on your scope.

  2. Do you maintain BuddyPress plugins yourselves?

Yes. BuddyPress Moderation Pro, BuddyPress Polls, BuddyPress Hashtags, BuddyPress Member Blog, BuddyX Pro theme, and many more. We ship to WordPress.org, support the plugins, and run them in production. The patterns we sell are the patterns we ship.

  3. Can you integrate BuddyPress with LearnDash, WooCommerce, MemberPress?

Yes, and we have. Cohort groups for LearnDash. Member-only stores for WooCommerce. Membership tier-aware community access for MemberPress. Friendship-aware messaging. The BuddyPress + integration layer is one of our specialties.

  4. How do you handle community moderation?

BuddyPress Moderation Pro (our plugin) gives you reports, moderation queues, auto-moderation rules, suspension workflows, and audit trails. We can extend it with custom rules for your community. We also help train moderation teams on the patterns that scale.

  5. Can BuddyPress work headless for a mobile app?

Yes. We extend the BuddyPress REST API for the data the app needs, add JWT authentication, rate limit the routes, and give you typed schemas. We have shipped React Native and web frontends consuming BuddyPress data this way.

  6. What does it cost?

BuddyPress customizations are scoped per project (custom activity types, profile fields, theme integration). Full community builds are scope-dependent. Headless BuddyPress with mobile app integration are scoped per project. Discovery call is free.
