In this tutorial you will choose who can read a post, and turn its comments off. You need the free WB Member Blog plugin, installed and active, and a role that may write. It takes about two minutes. There are four steps. Open the Publishing fold. Choose who can read it. Turn comments off. Then see how to change it later.

Step one. Open the Publishing fold. On the writing page, find Post settings on the right, and click Publishing. It holds two choices: who can read the post, and whether readers can comment on it.

Step two. Choose who can read it. Under Visibility, Public is the choice you start with. Everyone can see the post. Private means only you, editors and administrators can read it. It is offered when your posts go live without review. Password protected asks readers for a password. Choose it, and a Password box opens, where you pick the word readers will need. Choose Public again to show the post to everyone.

Step three. Turn comments off. Below the visibility choices is Allow comments on this post. Click it to untick it. With it unticked, nobody can add a new comment. Comments the post already has stay visible.

Step four. Change it later. Open a published post from your dashboard, and click Publishing. The same choices are there, set the way you left them. Change a choice, then use the main button at the foot of the form to save it. On a live post it reads Update.

That is all four. The Publishing fold, who can read the post, comments turned off, and how to change it later. You now control who reads a post, and who can comment. Next in this series: Write the summary shown when a post is shared.
