In this tutorial you will turn on the features your readers use, such as claps, a reading list and following writers. You need the free WB Member Blog plugin, installed and active. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the Features tab. Choose features for your own pages. Choose features inside Member Blog. Save your choice. Then see it as a member.
Step one. Open the Features tab. In your WordPress admin, open WB Plugins, then Member Blog, and click Features under Settings. Every reader feature is here, in two groups, each with a switch and a plain description.
Step two. Choose features for your own pages. These change pages your site already has, so none of them turns itself on. Writer profiles gives each member a profile page with their posts. Topic hubs turns category and tag pages into a hub for that topic. Clap and save under the article puts those two buttons after the last paragraph of a post. Related posts adds a strip of similar posts. Click a switch to turn a feature on, and click it again to turn it off. Each one says what it adds to your site.
Step three. Choose features inside Member Blog. These show on the member dashboard, and wherever you place a Member Blog block or shortcode. Follow writers lets members follow a writer and get their new posts. Claps lets readers applaud a post, up to fifty times. Reading list lets members save a post to read later. Clap and save on post lists puts the same two buttons on post cards. Digest email sends members a summary of new posts by the writers they follow. Members choose to receive it with WB Member Blog Pro.
Step four. Save your choice. Turn everything on, beside Save Features, ticks every feature except the digest email, which mails your members. Then click Save Features.
Step five. See it as a member. Sign in as a member and open any post. Under the last paragraph are the clap button and the save button. Below them, the author box has a Follow button, so readers can follow the writer.
That is all five. The Features tab, features for your own pages, features inside Member Blog, the choice saved, and the result seen as a member. Your readers can now clap, save and follow. Next in this series: Write and publish your first post.
