In this tutorial you will find your way around WB Member Blog, so you know where everything lives before you change a setting. You need the free WB Member Blog plugin, installed and active. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the Member Blog settings. Read the Overview. Find the settings tabs. Find the review queue. Then see the member side.
Step one. Open the Member Blog settings. In your WordPress admin, open WB Plugins, then click Member Blog. Every setting lives on this one screen. It opens on the Overview tab, and the list on the left holds the other tabs.
Step two. Read the Overview. When member posts wait for your approval, Needs review shows how many. Review now opens them. Below it are three counts: published posts, drafts, and posts pending review. They count every post on the site, not only member posts. Configuration Status checks the four things a member blog needs. The writing page, the dashboard page, the editor, and the roles allowed to write.
Step three. Find the settings tabs. Under Settings there are six. Features, Pages, Editor, Access, Content and Shortcode Areas. Click a tab to open it. Pages holds the page members write on, and the page that holds their blog home. Access decides which roles can write, and whether member posts wait for your review. The Modules group below belongs to WB Member Blog Pro. Without Pro, an Upgrade tab sits there instead.
Step four. Find the review queue. It is not on the settings screen. Open Posts, then click Member submissions, above the list. Posts waiting for review come first. The Review column holds Approve and Send back for each one.
Step five. See the member side. Sign in as a member and open My Blog Dashboard. This is their blog home. Its tabs hold their Published posts, Drafts and Pending posts, the posts they Saved, and the writers they are Following. Create Post opens the writing page, where members write and publish without the WordPress admin.
That is all five. The Member Blog settings, the Overview, the settings tabs, the review queue, and the member side. You now know where everything lives in WB Member Blog. Next in this series: Set the writing page and the dashboard page.
