On this page, I will tell you what I have learned about Best BuddyPress hosting while developing large-scale BuddyPress projects for my various clients.
You can technically host your BuddyPress site even on a shared server. A typical configuration of a shared server that offers a small number of server resources that is shared with other clients of the hosting company. For small sites – with an appropriate plugin installed – this works.
In my BuddyPress development career, I’ve never seen a shared server that hosted a BuddyPress community correctly.
Why? Because BuddyPress is simply more resource heavy and requires a better server configuration. People post status updates, change their profile image and create new forum topics. Caching this content heavily is not an option, and the shared server will slow down the website at the turtle’s pace. Guaranteed!
VPS (Virtual Private Server)
A VPS is a step above a shared server and if you know what you are doing you can turn your virtual private server into something that can host small and medium BuddyPress communities. I’ve found a lot of BuddyPress client sites in a VPS with good results.
What you should look for in a web host to host your BuddyPress community
If you are not going to host a lot of media, you don’t need to think a lot about server space. 10-20GB server space is more than enough.
The only thing that you should care about is the reading and writing of the database quickly, which means an ideal server must have a solid-state drive (SSD) and a good amount of RAM (2GB or more is preferred). A fast CPU is always better.
The server that you choose must be dedicated to your website only. This is important because you can set up your server as per your requirement, and it will be easier for you to scale up in the future when it is required.
Most of the users prefer managed Virtual Private Server (VPS) as it offers the benefits of a full private server but at a lower price along with support from the web hosting provider.
Virtual Private Server (VPS)
I’ve tried hosting the BuddyPress sites with a couple of service providers in the past but never got a satisfactory result.
For the last 3 years, I am hosting my projects at MilesWeb. They offer the best VPS hosting, along with fantastic technical support and a 99.95% uptime guarantee. My suggestion is to go with the V1 and V2 plans that they offer.
V1 Plan offers 2vCPU, 2 GB Memory, 50 GB SSD Storage, 200 GB Bandwidth, and 1 Dedicated IP. You can purchase this plan at $9/mo.
The V2 Plan offers 2vCPU, 4 GB Memory, 100 GB SSD Memory, 300 GB Bandwidth, and 1 Dedicated IP. You can purchase this plan at $15/mo.
You can simply initiate a chat or drop an email to MilesWeb Team and they will get your account setup in no time.
If you think that $15/month is expensive as if compared with shared hosting services, think about the value of 99.95% uptime, performance, and the best technical support.
It’s worthwhile to invest a little more for a better future of your BuddyPress website.
Apart from BuddyPress, if you wish to host any other WordPress website you should check out MilesWeb specialized WordPress hosting plans. Their WP plans start from $1 per month. MilesWeb has a solution for hosting every WordPress based website.
