In this tutorial you will keep customers in the loop: move an item forward, tell the people who voted, reply to comments and review suggestions. You need the free Product Roadmap plugin and some customer votes. It takes about four minutes. Four steps. Move an item to a new status. Set Notification Events. Reply to a comment. Then review pending suggestions. A customer who votes and then hears nothing feels unheard, and unheard customers leave. When you move an item forward, the people who voted are told, and a quick reply to a comment shows someone is listening.
Step one. Move an item to a new status. Open an item from All Items. This one is Version history for every note. On the right, open Statuses. Tick In Progress. Then click Save. Everyone who voted or commented on this item is emailed that it moved.
Step two. Set Notification Events. On the Notifications tab, Notification Email Addresses is where your own alerts go. New Votes, New Comments and New Suggestions each have a tick box, so you hear only about what matters. The email to customers when a status changes follows Enable Email Notifications, and each notification email carries an unsubscribe link. Click Save Settings when you are done.
Step three. Reply to a comment. Customers comment on an item, and you answer on the same page. Here are two comments on this item. Click Reply under a comment to answer it. Write your answer, then click Post Comment. Your reply appears under the question.
Step four. Review pending suggestions. In All Items, the Pending tab holds ideas customers sent that are waiting for you. Point at a row, and Edit, Approve and Reject appear. Approve puts the idea on your roadmap, where others can vote on it. Reject removes it. Your customers see that you read what they send.
That is all four. An item moved forward, Notification Events set, a comment answered and pending suggestions reviewed. Your customers can see that you listen. Next in this series: Organise your roadmap and match your brand.
