1. Install WordPress using MAMP

  1. MAMP (Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) is a free app you can install on your Mac device. It will give you access to a local Apache server, which is open-source.
    Download MAMP to set up a database and web server for a WordPress installation. You must go to the official website of MAMP to download the setup file.
  2. After the file is downloaded, the installation process will begin, and you have to run the installation wizard. You can start with the free version before updating to the pro version.
  3. Once the installation is complete, go to the MAMP controller and begin the server. Then, when the server is running, open the WebStart page and launch phpMyAdmin.
  4. Install WordPress locally on your MacBook from the official WordPress website. When the download is complete, unzip the downloaded files. Place the files inside the MAMP document root folder. If you want, you can rename the folder.
  5. Next, create the database through the MAMP control panel using phpMyAdmin. You must add the name of the database before heading to the wp-config.php file. Add the credentials of the database.
  6. Visit http://localhost/newwpsite to run the WordPress installation wizard. You must enter the database name, along with the username and password. You can even define the table prefix. Click Submit once you have finished.
  7. The successful configuration of the data will be confirmed on the next screen, and then you must click Run the Installation to start the process.
  8. In the next screen, you must provide information regarding the website you wish to create and set a username and password. Using this, you can access the WordPress dashboard.

  1. Visit the official website of XAMPP and download the latest installation package for your MacBook. You can run XAMPP from the Launchpad.
  2. To start the XAMPP server, click the Start button from the home screen and go to the General tab. The MySQL and Apache services will begin, and you will get the local Apache server IP address.
  3. Open Safari or a browser of your choice, visit the official website of WordPress, and download it. The zip file and downloader will be saved to the Downloads folder. You can access it from the Finder.
  4. Open XAMPP on Mac, go to the Volumes tab, and click Mount, so the lampp folder is mounted on the XAMPP server. Open the XAMPP directory by clicking the Explore button. Unzip all the files to extract them by copying the WordPress installer to the XAMPP directory.
  5. Then, you must launch XAMPP and ensure the MySQL and Apache services are running. Switch to the Network tab and enable the localhost:8080 -> 80 (Over SSH). After that, go to the Service tab and restart the Apache service.
  6. Visit localhost:8080 in your web browser and click phpMyAdmin. The database management tool for the web will open. Then, click Database and type the database name. Click the Create button to start working on your local WordPress website on your Mac.
  7. Finally, you have to pull up the WordPress web installation wizard and use the local IP address of the XAMPP server. Fill in the website title, admin username, password, and email address, and then click the Install WordPress button.
