In this tutorial you will make points mean something in WB Gamification, with caps, cooldowns, double points, expiry and hand-awarded points. You need the free WB Gamification plugin, installed and active. It takes about four minutes. There are four steps. Set caps and cooldowns. Run a double points weekend. Let unused points expire. Then award points by hand. Rewards that are too easy mean nothing. A member can post ten times and collect points for noise. With limits you decide what is worth paying for, and you can add a bonus for the moments you want more of.
Step one. Set caps and cooldowns. Click Points. Each action has a Cooldown in seconds. Daily Cap and Weekly Cap stop one member from collecting without end. When a limit is reached the member is not told. The points are quietly skipped. Change a limit, then click Save Changes.
Step two. Run a double points weekend. Open Point Multipliers. This list holds your rules, active and inactive. Add Multiplier takes a Multiplier, such as two, and what it Applies to. A double points rule is saved here, Inactive until you Activate it.
Step three. Let unused points expire. In Points, scroll to Point expiry. Inactive for sets how long a member can be quiet. Decay amount is what they lose after that.
Step four. Award points by hand. Open Award Points. Search for a member, then set the Amount and a Reason. A negative amount deducts. Click Award Points. Bulk Award gives the same points to a whole role. Recent Manual Awards keeps a list of who was given what, and when.
That is all four. Caps and cooldowns set, a double points weekend ready, expiry understood, and points awarded by hand. Your points now reward the right things. Next in this series: Give members a ladder to climb.
