The situation
Electrician U began with a trade rather than a course catalogue. It built an audience first by teaching electricians on video, and that audience follows it across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, a podcast and a Discord community. The site’s own testimonials come from those followers.
Training was the next step, and two kinds of buyer wanted it. An apprentice buys for themselves, and wants to learn at their own pace. A contractor buys for a crew, and wants to know who has finished what. A single checkout could not serve both.
Where we started
The work started with a launch in November 2024, when the platform moved to its own domain with the client’s team on call. From there it grew in monthly steps. The client set the priorities, from business seats to the lesson completion report to practice exams, and each month’s plan went to whatever mattered most that month.
What we built
A training platform on WordPress and LearnDash, launched in November 2024 and improved every month since.
- Two learning systems. One for individuals and one for businesses, each with its own sign-up and account area.
- Seats for businesses. A business buys seats, assigns them to technicians, and can upgrade, downgrade or remove them. Technicians get their own account set-up.
- Reports that managers use. A lesson completion report with filters, extra columns and a view of what each technician has been assigned and finished.
- Practice exams. A practice-exam area with quizzes that behave the way an exam does.
- Motivation built in. Badges, awards and streaks with GamiPress, and notes on lessons and courses with our own LMS Notes plugin.
- Continuing education. Courses that need identity checks run through a connected training platform, so the main site stays simple.
- A video hub, articles and a podcast area. Media lives alongside the courses, and the video hub moved off the previous video host onto the client’s own hub page.
- An affiliate programme and member controls. Profile visibility settings, account deletion and category-based search.
What it makes possible
A training business that sells to the apprentice and to the employer from the same platform. Since launch, a standing monthly plan has let the team ask for what they learn their students need, and see it shipped.
