Some members stay silent because they are not ready to attach their name to a sensitive topic or unpopular opinion. BuddyPress Anonymous Activity lets members post and comment anonymously across groups and the community feed, with custom anonymous avatars and display names. Admins control which groups and user roles can use anonymous posting.
Discover tab listing the Wbcom plugin family, with one-click install and activation for products that offer a free tier.
Fix
The anonymous display name you set under Display & Labels is now used on forum topics and replies, which always showed "Anonymous" regardless of the setting.
The forum checkbox label you set is now used on reply forms loaded on the fly, which always showed "Post as Anonymous".
Resetting the anonymous avatar to default no longer saves a broken image. Sites already affected recover automatically on update.
The Overview screen no longer offers a Forums "Turn on" link when no forum plugin is active, and reports how many locations are actually available.
Saving settings while bbPress or BuddyBoss was inactive no longer silently turns anonymous forum posting off.
The activity-stream fallback now uses the configured anonymous display name instead of a hardcoded one.
Security
Anonymous forum topics and replies no longer expose the real author's name, avatar, profile link or role to logged-out visitors, or to logged-in members whose role is outside the allowed-roles list.
Anonymous forum topics now suppress the author's role label. Previously only replies were covered, so themes that show the role on a topic revealed it.
Revealing the real author now requires a moderator capability on an admin screen, instead of any request that reported itself as admin.
On sites using RTMedia, the real author's secondary avatar is now removed from anonymous group and friends activities. The check compared against the wrong value and never ran, so the avatar was always left in place.
Dev
New bpaa_installer_catalog filter so add-ons can extend the Discover tab without a core release.
New bp_anonymous_forum_author_role filter for the role label shown on anonymous forum posts.
New bp_anonymous_can_view_real_author filter controlling who may unmask an anonymous author.
Administrator bypass is now a manage_options capability check rather than a role-name check, so custom admin-equivalent roles behave the same.
Renamed Bp_Anonymous_Activities_i18n to Bp_Anonymous_Activities_I18n for the WordPress class-name convention. PHP class names are case-insensitive, so existing references keep working.
Removed the unused assets/js/bp-anonymous-bbpress.js, which was never enqueued.
