The situation
Teachers in Australia spend evenings and weekends making lesson plans, worksheets and units. Most of it never leaves their own classroom. Other teachers are looking for the same things and have little time to build them from scratch.
TPD set out to join the two. A teacher who makes something good should be able to sell it. A teacher who needs something should find it by subject and year level in minutes, from someone who has already taught it.
Where we started
The platform needed the parts of a real marketplace. Sellers needed their own shop and a dashboard. The business needed a way to earn from the platform, which became seller memberships with commission that can differ by category. Buyers needed prices that make sense in Australia and downloads that arrive straight away. We started from those three groups and built each journey in turn.
What we built
A WooCommerce and Dokan marketplace on a BuddyBoss child theme.
- Browse the way teachers think. Subject areas, year levels, teaching resources and professional development courses, with reviews on each product.
- Selling made simple. A “Sell with us” path and a seller dashboard, so teachers can list their own resources.
- Seller memberships. A free tier and paid tiers, with commission rules that can differ by category.
- Payments and tax. Stripe checkout, including recurring seller memberships, with GST-inclusive pricing for Australian buyers.
- Digital downloads. Purchased files are delivered securely from cloud storage.
- Catalogue onboarding. A repeatable process for bringing in a supplier’s catalogue in bulk.
What it makes possible
A marketplace that teachers trust and can grow. Sellers keep their own shop within the platform, and buyers find ready-made resources in minutes rather than building them from scratch.
