Careers WordPress Theme Developer

Build the themes thousands of sites run on.

Full-time role based in our Lucknow office. You build and maintain our theme line: Reign, BuddyX, and the integration add-ons that ship with them. PHP, WordPress core, the block editor, theme.json, WooCommerce, and BuddyPress, with your code reviewed by senior engineers before it ships.

Full-time · Lucknow, India · 0-5 years experience

We are looking for a theme developer who can own production WordPress themes end to end: not throwaway client builds, but products that thousands of sites depend on and update in place. You write the code; a senior engineer reviews it before every release.

You will work across the theme line and the block editor. The work spans classic theming, block patterns, full-site-editing templates, and the WooCommerce and BuddyPress integrations our customers rely on.

Responsibilities

What you will do day to day.

Four areas of the work. The split shifts week to week depending on what is shipping, but all four are part of the role.

01

Build and maintain the theme line

Develop features and fixes across Reign, BuddyX, their child themes, and add-ons. Classic templates, block patterns, theme.json, and full-site-editing flows. Your code ships to sites that update in place, so it has to be right.

Reign, BuddyX, and add-ons.

02

Integrate WooCommerce and BuddyPress

Build and maintain the layers that make our themes work with WooCommerce stores and BuddyPress communities. Template overrides, hooks, and compatibility across plugin versions and updates.

WooCommerce + BuddyPress integration.

03

Keep up with WordPress core

Track core releases, block editor changes, and deprecations. Update themes ahead of breakage, not after a customer reports it. Test against the next version before it lands.

Ahead of core, not behind it.

04

Production-quality, reviewed code

Write code that passes WPCS and PHPStan, ships with correct escaping and sanitization, and reads clearly for the next developer. Every change goes through senior review before it tags.

WPCS + PHPStan + review.

Requirements

What we need you to bring.

Four hard requirements. Without these the role will not be a fit. With them, we want to talk.

01

PHP and WordPress core

Solid PHP plus hands-on theme development: the template hierarchy, hooks, enqueueing, theme.json, and the block editor. You have built or substantially maintained a theme before.

Theme development experience required.

02

Block editor and FSE

Comfortable with block patterns, block-based templates, and full-site editing. The theme line is moving to blocks, and you should be able to move with it rather than around it.

Blocks and full-site editing.

03

WooCommerce or BuddyPress

You have worked with at least one of these ecosystems and understand how a theme integrates with it: templates, hooks, and the common compatibility traps.

Ecosystem integration experience.

04

Write reviewable code

You scope a change, write it cleanly, and explain it in the pull request. You take review feedback without ego and you write code the next developer can read.

Clean code, explained in the PR.

Nice to have

Things that move you to the top of the stack.

Not required, but if you have any of these, mention them in the cover letter.

01

Plugin development

You have built WordPress plugins too, not only themes. Useful when a feature straddles the theme and plugin line.

Plugin experience.

02

Build tooling

Comfortable with npm, the @wordpress/scripts toolchain, and a Grunt or webpack build. Our themes ship compiled assets, both minified and source.

npm / build pipelines.

03

Performance and accessibility

You think about Core Web Vitals and WCAG while you build, not as a cleanup pass afterwards. Quality baked in beats quality bolted on.

Performance + a11y by default.
