Engagement WordPress Engineering

Hire a WordPress developer who has shipped what you need.

Senior WordPress engineering, not freelance roulette. 100+ plugins shipped, BuddyPress and WooCommerce experts on staff, fixed-price quotes, production-quality code from commit one. Three ways to engage: an hourly block, a dedicated developer, or a fixed-price project.

100+ plugins shipped. WordPress agency since 2013.
How the engagement works pick the shape, not the hours
Embedded engineer Monthly, 3 month minimum You have a backlog and a team to join
Scoped project Fixed price, fixed scope You know what you want built
Retainer Monthly hours, rolling Ongoing changes, no fixed end

Our team is IST. Four hours overlap with EU afternoons and early US mornings, in writing, every day.

Why this matters

Most "WordPress developers" have shipped one site, not one hundred.

The freelance market is full of people who can build a brochure site. The moment your project hits BuddyPress, multisite, custom WooCommerce, REST APIs at scale, or a real plugin architecture, you need a different developer. We are that developer. We have shipped over 100 plugins and themes, we run our own products in production, and we treat every engagement like the code is going to live for a decade. Because some of ours have.

What makes someone a WordPress expert rather than a WordPress developer

The word gets used loosely, so here is the version worth paying for. An expert has shipped code that other people run in production and has had to support it afterwards. They know what breaks at scale because they have been on the wrong end of it, and they can tell you what not to build.

Ours have shipped 100+ plugins and themes that run on other people's sites. That is a different qualification from having built a lot of websites, because a plugin that misbehaves generates support tickets from strangers until it is fixed properly.

What you get

A senior engineer who has done this before.

Real seniority. Real shipping experience. Production-quality code from commit one. Architecture before code. Fixed scope, fixed price. Handoff your team can extend.

01

Senior, not junior dressed up as senior

Every developer on our team has shipped at least 10 production WordPress plugins or themes. No bait and switch. The person who sits the discovery call is the person who writes the code.

Onboarding ramp measured in days, not weeks.

02

Shipped what you need

BuddyPress, BuddyBoss, WooCommerce, LearnDash, MemberPress, Easy Digital Downloads, GravityForms, Elementor, ACF, custom Gutenberg blocks, REST API, multisite. We have shipped at production scale on every one.

No "let me look that up" mid-engagement.

03

Production code from commit one

WPCS, PHPStan level 5, PHPUnit tests, escaping, sanitization, capability checks, nonce checks. Every commit goes to staging behind a feature flag. No "we will fix it later" technical debt.

Pass any WordPress security audit cleanly.

04

Architecture before code

Hooks and filters identified. Database schema reviewed. Performance budget locked. We design the change before we write it. The result holds up under traffic and scales past launch.

No "the new feature broke production" weeks.

05

Fixed scope, fixed price

Discovery produces a written scope. The scope produces a fixed-price quote. The quote does not change unless the scope changes. No surprise invoices.

Budget predictable from week one.

06

Hand off so your team can extend

Code documented for your team to maintain. CLAUDE.md or equivalent so the next engineer (yours or AI-assisted) gets up to speed in minutes. We do not build dependence.

Your team owns the code at the end.

How you hire us

Three ways to engage, and what each is actually for.

Most people arrive here knowing they need help and not knowing what shape to buy. These are the three we offer. Pick the closest fit and we will tell you on the call if a different one suits you better.

  • Model 01

    Hourly block

Best when You have a backlog of fixes and changes rather than one defined build.

Buy a block of senior hours and draw it down as work comes up. No scoping overhead for small pieces, and no retainer commitment while you find out whether the fit works.

    Commitment
    20-hour block upfront
    Starts
    Within days
    Billed
    Drawn down as used
    Start with this
  • Model 03

    Fixed-price project

Best when The scope can be written down and you want the budget certain before work starts.

Discovery produces a written scope, the scope produces a fixed quote, and the quote does not move unless the scope does. You approve before anyone writes code.

    Commitment
    Written scope before code
    Starts
    About a week after discovery
    Billed
    Fixed, against milestones
    Start with this

Not sure which fits? The discovery call is free and we will say so if the work does not need us at all.

100+

WordPress plugins and themes shipped, with hundreds of thousands of active installs

Including products on the WordPress.org repository and our own EDD-powered store.

How engagements work

From inquiry to handoff in three phases.

01

Discovery

One week. Discovery call within 48 hours of inquiry. We audit your existing WordPress install, scope the work, and ship a fixed-price quote. You approve before we write code.

Fixed scope, fixed price.

02

Build

Two to twelve weeks. Production-quality code from commit one. WPCS, PHPStan, PHPUnit tests in CI from day one. Staging available within 7 days. Weekly check-ins.

You see real work weekly.

03

Handoff

One week. Documentation, code walkthrough, deploy runbook, training session for your team. We step back when your team can maintain the code without us.

Your team owns the code at the end.

What it costs

What an engagement costs depends on what you want done.

We quote against a written scope rather than publishing a rate card, because the same job title covers a two-day fix and a six-month build. Here is what moves the number, and how fast you get a real one.

What moves the number

  • Which model An hourly block, a dedicated developer and a fixed-price project each price differently. See the three above.
  • Seniority needed Most work needs one senior engineer. Some needs a second pair of eyes on architecture before anyone commits.
  • State of the codebase Clean, documented code is faster to extend. Inherited code with no tests carries discovery cost before any feature lands.
  • Duration Longer engagements price differently from one-off projects, and a dedicated developer is the cheaper shape past a certain point.

Small, well-defined work is usually better handled as an hourly block than scoped as a project, and we will say so rather than inflate it into one.

Rough idea to delivery

  1. You send the details What you want built, roughly, plus budget range and timing. The form asks for all of it
  2. Within 4 business hours We read it and reply. Nothing is scheduled before we know what it is about
  3. Then the call Free discovery, booked once there is enough on the table to make it worth your hour
  4. Within 48 hours of the call A written fixed-price quote you approve before anything starts

Common questions

Frequently asked

  1. Should I hire a WordPress developer, a WordPress expert, or an agency?

They tend to mean the same thing to whoever is searching, so the useful question is what you actually need. If you know what to build and need hands, that is a developer and you can hire one by the week. If you need someone to work out what to build first, that is closer to consulting and it is a smaller, cheaper engagement. If the work spans design, build, security and ongoing support, that is an agency. We do all three, and we will tell you which one your problem is rather than quoting the largest.

  2. Do we get an individual or a team?

A named senior engineer who does the work, with the rest of the team behind them for review and for the specialisms. You are not handed to a junior after the sales call, and you are not left with one person who disappears on holiday mid-project. If you specifically want a lone freelancer, a marketplace is genuinely a better fit than we are.

  3. How fast can you start?

Discovery call within 48 hours of inquiry. Discovery and quote within one week. Engineering can typically start within two weeks of contract signature. Faster for emergencies.

  4. Do you work hourly or fixed-price?

Fixed-price for defined projects. Hourly only for retainers and ongoing maintenance. Most clients prefer fixed-price for new builds because the budget is predictable.

  5. What about emergency or rescue work?

We take emergency engagements when our schedule allows. Same-day discovery call. Quote within 24 hours. Engineering starts within 48 hours for production-down situations. Premium pricing applies.

  6. Can you work with our existing WordPress team?

Yes. Many clients use us as embedded senior support to their existing team. We integrate with your code review, deploy pipeline, and project management. The handoff at the end of the engagement matters more than the work during it.

  7. Do you build custom themes? Plugins? Both?

Both, plus custom Gutenberg blocks, custom REST endpoints, multisite networks, custom WP-CLI commands, BuddyPress and BuddyBoss extensions, WooCommerce payment gateways, and headless WordPress with Astro frontends. If it runs on WordPress, we have shipped it.

  8. What does it cost?

Discrete projects are scope-dependent (a focused fix or small feature). Typical mid-size projects (custom plugin, theme, or migration) are scoped after discovery. Large engagements can run higher based on scope. Discovery call is free.
